                 CHAPTER-33 (LATE WINTER) DAYS-41-45

It was already into late winter in Winfield after the town had already endured ten days of the season and the residents were already looking foreward to the end of the season. They were all starting to get anxious to start building out buildings or add extensions to their houses because the homes were starting to get crowded and they all wanted to start expanding the houses.
They were still getting cold temperatures though it was only down to -30 degrees and did get up to -20 sometimes. There were still blizzards though they weren't as violent and didn't last quite as long as the ones earlier in the season. The families living in Winfield were all looking at spring coming in a few days and were starting to get excited to see green grass instead of snow. They were also starting to get ready to start planting again to restock the food.
The Jankowskys were still wanting to get that barn built for Racer since they'd meant to have that built before adopting a foal for their pet. There was thick fog rolling in and they weren't likely to be getting any more blizzards though it might snow again. It was getting closer to the end of the winter and everybody was hoping to find those who were still missing and at least be able let the families have a chance to say their good-byes to the lost before burials.
The residents were all starting to get low on ingredient for cooking and began to worry about running out of food before they could start spring planting or get new supplies shipped to town. They did get another day of snow falling lightly though the blizzards were over and nobody wanted them to continue and delay supplies arriving. The Ivanovitch family had to try to make it through the rest of the winter and make their food last.
The residents of Winfield were starting to hope for spring to arrive very soon by then because they were getting tired of the endless cold winter weather and the continuing blizzards that ended just as a new one was getting started. It had been non-stop blizzards and snowstorms all winter long and the season was finally nearing the end.It was also near the end of the old year because spring was the start of a new year.
The Jankowskys were really looking foreward to spring and to getting a barn built for Racer because they'd wanted to get that done before winter arrived and never got the chance to build before it started snowing like crazy all winter long. They'd been getting more clear sunny weather and the odd overcast day in the last few days.It was still a few more days until spring arrived and everybody wanted to see spring coming.
The next thing the residents would start having to deal with was running out of fresh meals and being stuck eating spoiled leftovers because they had nothing else to eat and winter had been so long and so harsh though it was coming to an end very soon with spring arriving in a few short days.Racer was getting fed his bottles every day and getting lots of loving attention from the Jankowskys who'd wanted a pet and chose him.
The Ivanovitch family spent most of the last day of winter watching the overcast sky though it ended up clearing up in the afternoon and turning out to be sunny for a while before it got dark out.The Jankowskys were also looking at the end of winter being the best day of the season because they were looking foreward to starting the new year of 1854 and seeing the town begin to grow in size and population with the arrivals of a few new families.
The residents of Winfield were all planning on making sure they got to bed at decent times because they all had work and wanted to start the new year off well and get into good habits.
